Got some "little art" done

So I figured out a couple of things on blogger and am happier with the birds and I am using the "Read More" option of blogger now so if you want to see more of the photo's just click the "READ MORE" at then end of a post ... I also had to much coffee and couldn't sleep the other night so I got these "little things" done ... click on the photo to enlarge

as you can see from theses photos I am not in very good shape (looking wise) but doing good and this is 11 days after surgery ... I hope to be able to do some projects in Oct ... hope things are going good with all of you ... I can one hand type for 2 more weeks then move to 2 hands on short emails ... oh the holey thing under my arm in photo ending in 71or the 2nd one, is the hard stabilizing brace I have to wear all the time - except for bath/PT ... I was to be in a Round Robin with some awesome artist but had to bow out because if this surgery so I am posting the front cover which I finished about a month ago, it's a Junque' Journal I made to use got lots of canvas, cardstock, envelopes, pockets and stuff inside for the artist to use as substrata for their work .... hoping I can get back before the 2 months (for full recovery), they are taking my thumb out of socket and scrapping it then putting it back, calcium deposits from arthritis is just to bad and has messed up tendons all the way up my arm ....... Linda

this is soooooo much smaller than the other house and I now have to share the space with DH and Genealogy so here it is ... oh you can see some things still stacked on the floor and they need to find a home and I won't even show you the closet yet cause it still looks a mess that will come later .... oh and you notice I didn't even take a photo of my work surface cause it's a mess still too .... ok they didn't load correctly so the 4th & 5th one go before the 1st one (that is if you want to see the correct 360 view) ... oh I owe a HUGE thanks to my niece Phyllis for hanging my shelves especially the ones in the corner that hold my ribbons and a HUGE thanks to my son-in-law for building the desk and hanging some of the black shelves not to mention all the other things he has helped us with here ... I want to thank all for helping so much, the list is Matthew our Network specialist, Marcus our muscle and software specialist, Heather, Leita & Phyllis for moving, packing, unpacking and helping put things in place .... I owe you lots, just remember what I always say "what goes around comes around" so maybe someone will help you in your OLD age ..... ;-D ... Linda

While I was at the Arlington Scrapbook Convention last week I came across this vendor named "Loralie Art Stamps", her website is Loralie Designs .... I had told myself I was NOT buying any more stamps I have to many and I don't use them much anymore ....... BUT seeing these I just thought they were so much fun SOOOOOOOOOO I bought a stamp and some of the die cuts from her line ...... the stamps are line design and you get to add the colors in whatever you are working with ... I did this with Tombo markers and a blending pen, then I cut them out and added them to an alcohol ink marbled cardstock ... this is all I was able to wipe up since then but plan on doing more because they are so much fun .... click to enlarge

Shady Ladies was GREAT

Report on the first Shady Ladies Art Retreat ....
Jeri is our word smith and so I have snagged her post on the Retreat and copied it to mine ..... but these are my photos, I was just having to much fun to take any of the rest of the goings on ....

the retreat began on Friday evening with most of the teachers getting together to meet each other and go over information - of course we shared a bit of wine & cheese and much fun conversation. Our special guests for the weekend were Rice Freeman-Zachary and her husband, photographer, Earl Zachary. Both were a delight and added so much to the retreat! You should have seen me trying to ignore Earl's camera when we needed a "face shot" of me.
The teachers were Kari McKnight-Holbrook (painting & clay), Deryn Mentock (jewelry), Magdalena Muldoon (metal embossing), Linda Findley (altered book), and me with bookmaking and shadowboxes. It was truly a fun fun time.
During the afternoon on Saturday we had a glass bead making demo by Peg McLarnan -
On Saturday evening after a busy busy day of classes we had a Texas barbeque by the pool - you can do tht in central Texas towards the end of April! The food was good with the exception of my cold beans - oh well, there is always next year! Everyone was friendly and I don't think anyone was left out - if we saw someone sitting by themselves, someone in the crowd would go join them (if they wanted privacy they did not get it - lol).
Saturday night we had "Let's Mingle At The Marketplace" - what fun to get to mingle will all of the attendees and there were some make & takes and the teachers sold their wares.
Sunday was another class filled day. Later in the afternoon , attendees and some of the teachers began saying their good-bye's and left.

This was a 5 day challenge from an online group I am in ... we did a step each day so that at the end of 5 days we each had our completed banners .... I used a new Tim Holtz edge die cut on the top and 2 of his new "Spring Sprung" stamps (the bunny and the twigs/leaves) and his Elegant Flourish die for the gold flourish .... the paper flowers are out of scrap paper and tulle on the end flowers, the center one is just paper (you cut/punch out scalloped circles. at least 5, then you punch hole in the center add a brad and scrunch up each of the circles in to balls then unscrunch them one at a time) a friend taught me this ... I kind of cheated and only use 6 or our 9 flags we made because I wanted mine to be for Easter ...... it was fun and now I have another Easter decoration thanks "E" ...... click to enlarge

I've been in a whirlwind lately getting ready for my Altered Book Retreat/Workshop and Altered Book class …. I’m lovin’ it …. In April I'll be headed down the road to the quaint town of Salado, Texas to teach at a retreat called Shady Ladies Altered Art Retreat, put on by Jeri Aaron … Shady Ladies is going to be a small event this year ...much more intimate …. This means, if you're a student, you'll enjoy tons of personal attention from your instructors and you'll get to know more of your fellow retreat attendees …. I'm real excited about both events …. The Altered Book class is still open to more students, it’s to be held Saturday April 24, 2010, in Salado, Texas …. There are more classes Saturday and Sunday April 24-25, 2010 just go to Shady Ladies blog and read all about them ... Classes are filling so get yourself signed up ASAP …. These are fun and informative classes …. Some are working with clay, canvases, altered books, creating books, art dolls, jewelry making, metal, drawing, shadowboxes … great teachers, some nationally known … Texas now has it's own art retreat …. Author Rice Zachery-Freeman will be attending Shady Ladies Altered Art Workshops … She is writing a book about art retreats, featuring a couple of the large national retreats, a boutique type retreat, a smaller intimate retreat, etc. … She met with the editor/publisher and Shady Ladies was chosen as the "small, more intimate retreat"…. Jeri Aaron has put together a new Art Retreat venue and it's going to be fabulous ... I have known Jeri for some time now, she is so creative ... with her being such an awesome artist herself, she has put this talent to work making her retreats unique ... she thinks of all the "special touches" to make a retreat a very special and personal event ... it won't be so large you feel like you are just one of the heard ... as a friend said it's an "I'm special and deserve it" kind of thing ... this is the kind of retreat you would plan for or go to with your very favorite and best of friends ... this event is the Shady Ladies Art Retreat in Salado, TX (Austin area) in April 2010 ... I know you are thinking GEE Linda you are just now getting this done ...... well life keeps popping up other things but today I got my Christmas album brought up to date with our 2008 Christmas pages .... this is but one of them and that is all I will share at this time ..... about 1/2 of it is digital the rest is good old fashion scrapping with a little altering thrown in ....

Son's Wedding Rehearsal Dinner

ok now I am working on doing a little special arrangement for our son's wedding rehearsal dinner table ...... yep it's the frog prince and princess ... I did some altering to the original frogs, made the little crowns and don't you just love her eyelashes .... lol .... I used some of the leaves from our oak tree that I had dried last year and a little stippling work on a card with fall colors then added the bing in green saying GO GREEN, a little double innuendo .... oh I think I didn't post the response card I did for the dinner, guess I better do that also ..... not sure if you can make it out but it says "he ask her and she said yes" ... the card and invitation were a little more of my digital work ... click to enlarge

At 8:14pm on Aug. 12, 2009 she brightened this world by coming out to see us .... she weighed 7.56 lbs. and was 20 1/4" long ...... parent and baby are doing great .... GRANDparents are ecstactic ...... I will continue to be on an art hiatus for awhile still but I will be having so much fun ...... later Linda

Taking a hiatus from art

As several of you have read we will be having our first Grand Baby soon and this GG is doing lots more baby things than art these days .... our daughter is having some problems with her pregnancy she is now bed rest until our little miracle arrives ... I make camp at their house lots and may need to even more in a week or so ... I am sewing burp clothes, receiving blankets now and working up a digital scrapbook that after printing I will do some altering to each of the pages ...... anyway there won't be much going into The Art Sook for about 3 to 5 months because after our little miracle gets here our son's wedding will be very close and I want to give lots of time and detail to that also ... as I do things that I can take photo's of I will post some of them so keep coming back .... I wish everyone health, peace, happiness .... yes this is a photo of our daughter in all of her 8th month glory ...... till next time ...... Linda

Went to an Art Retreat in Grapevine

An online group I am in has an art retreat each year for 4 days, it's such fun getting together and laughing and creating art ..... the theme this year was GIRLFRIENDS ... anyway these are some photo's of the projects we did ..... the corsage on the front was one of the small projects then the book was the big project (I am only posting 4 of the 7 spreads) and then we did a German glass edged slide that went into the book (the lady that showed us how to do it gave us each one with our name on it and I put mine on the front of my book), the back has some of the stuff from the weekend - my bunny slipper tag, a large decorated tickets for entrance to a party one night (we all decorated these tickets and then blind drew them after the event and I got this super one) .... we made an autograph book and each of us signed it , I am posting the front cover ... we also made this wonderful little pin nib butterfly and the background is Glimmer Mist .... and then this AWESOME wand was a drawing prize and I won .... enjoy .....

28 weeks today or 7 months for us old ones

well this is what I have been spending all my time doing lately ..... expecting a first Grand baby is so exciting I am sure each one will be but since this is our first I will have to wait to know ..... the nursery is still in progress .... the window is missing it's shelf rod to drape the swags and hold pretties, the rocking chair, in which the baby's Great Grandfather's rocked her mother and her uncle, corner is missing the chandelier; the changing table wall (which there is no photo this time is missing the shelf above it and the curved changing pad and the pretties for the shelf; the crib wall is missing the shelf above it (these shelves are antique from the baby's Great Grandparents mantel of there home) and the things that will go on it .... the colors didn't come out good in all the photos but the walls are lavender, the shears and recovered the rocker and stool (we did these) are soft lime, the black design on the walls I cut with the Cricut in vinyl and it was sooooo easy to adhere to the walls ... I will post more photos when it get finished ....
